The KonMari Method: A Joyful Approach to Tidying
The KonMari method, created by Japanese organiser Marie Kondo, offers an optimistic and joyful approach to decluttering and organising your home once and for all. Unlike traditional tidying methods that focus solely on getting rid of items, the KonMari method emphasises choosing what to keep based on whether an item sparks joy for you. As you go through your belongings, you'll discover what truly brings you joy, allowing you to thoughtfully curate your home with only the things you love.

Step 1: Commit yourself to tidying up
The fact that you're on my website means that you've already taken the first step toward making a positive change in your life. Now it's time to embrace the KonMari method of tidying and embark on your own Tidying Festival.
A Tidying Festival is the complete journey of tidying up. It may seem overwhelming, but dedicating the space and time to do it properly is the most effective way to tidy up once and for all.
Don't worry, you won't be alone. I'll be with you every step of the way, creating a personalised, step-by-step plan to ensure your success.
Step 2: Envision your ideal life
This step is incredibly important, and definitely should not be overlooked. Before we even begin tidying up, it's crucial to understand why you want to make changes in your life. It's not just about your belongings; it's about figuring out what your best life looks like. How do you want to feel? What would you like to spend your time doing? Who would you like to spend it with? Remember, tidying is just a tool; it is not the final destination.
Step 3: Finish Discarding First
The key to an organised home doesn't lie in the latest organising gadget or solution. Addressing the underlying issues and shifting your mindset about your belongings is essential. Once you can consciously decide what to keep, you'll soon understand your exact storage needs. More often than not, you already have just the right amount of storage.
Step 4: Tidy by category not location
If you try to tidy by location rather than by category, you will find yourself bouncing around the house and often not finishing.
By gathering all items in a category together in one place, we can better understand the actual amount that we own. This also makes it easy to see the duplicates that we often have without even realising it.
Step 5: Follow the correct order, specifically designed by Marie Kondo.
The order in which we tidy has been specifically designed by Marie Kondo to help you hone your ability to recognise what sparks joy for you.
The order is clothes, books, paper, komono (miscellaneous items), and finally, sentimental items.
By the time you reach sentimental items, you have mastered the art of choosing what to keep and can let go of what no longer brings you joy.
Step 6: Ask yourself what ‘sparks joy'
Unlike most traditional tidying methods which concentrate on a negative approach to tidying, where you just focus on what to throw away, the KonMari method focuses only on keeping items that you love and bring you happiness.
By changing your mindset to one of positivity and optimism, you will find the weight of overwhelm and stress lifted from your shoulders. At the end of your Tidying Festival, you will find yourself surrounded by everything you love, which in turn will support you in stepping into the ideal life that you imagined at the beginning of your journey. You will be living your best life.
